What I'm Reading

Some disturbing facts about literacy:

~ Fifty percent of American adults are unable to read an eight grade level book. (What?)

~ More than twenty percent of adults read at or below a fifth grade level - way below the level needed to earn a living wage.  (What?)

~ Children who haven't developed some basic literacy skills by the time they enter school are three to four times more likely to drop out in later years. (O.K....this makes sense)

~Forty-two percent of college graduates never read another book once they have graduated.  (O.K.....this one really gets me.  Really....think about the people you know......almost 50% of those people haven't read a book since college.  What?  Who isn't reading?  Really....I want to know who isn't reading. )
